Just Thinking.........Again

The Message of the Ages.

Sunday, August 16, 2009
A convenient time.

Can we ever hear the gospel message enough?  I don't think so.  It's a sweet song in the ears of the redeemed.  It's a reminder of what Jesus did for you.  Paul wrote to the Corinthians to remind them again of what he preached to them.

1 Corinthians 15:1-8

1Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

It's come to my attention over and over this week in my study time and devotions that this gospel message (the good news) is not bound by time, culture or geography.  In the book of Acts we see Paul give this message in every synagogue and every city as he went through Asia.  Then when he returns to Jerusalem he speaks it there.  When he ends up before Felix and Drusilla he tells them the same message. And it goes on and on.

That's just one man in that one time.  There were others, some we know of, some we don't.  All through the ages men and women have spoken that same message of good news.  It's such a simple message of forgiveness of sin and the eternal promise.

This same message goes on today.  I spoke of it this morning at church as well many other churches did (Wouldn't it be awesome if they all did?).  I received an email from a pastor from the other side of the world who is spreading the word in India.  It's a long way away, a different culture and language but the message is the same.

It's good that we believe in Jesus………He's the promise, but there is more.  It's good that we believe he paid our sin debt on the cross…..but that's not all.  It's important that we believe he rose again and showed his authority over death.  That's the hope that comes from the promise.  When we trust in the promise that is Jesus Christ, and we repent from our sins and know that he paid the penalty, we can grasp the hope that is eternal life.  There is a resurrection coming for everyone (whether you believe in it or not).  That resurrection is the hope, the payoff, if you will of a life redeemed by Christ.

This simple gospel message ends up polluted at times…….but that's another blog……probably a very long one.  I suppose the saints will speak this gospel message throughout eternity as a reminder of how we got there.  And while the good news hasn't changed over time, the hope it offers won't last forever.  There is a time limit.  God is patient, he doesn't want any to perish……..but a time is coming when it will be too late.  When you delay making Him the Lord over your life, you are rejecting the offer.  The rejections get easier over time as a you continue in sin…….waiting ………holding off……not quite yet……one of these days……….when I get older……….after I've had my fun………..when I settle down.  All these excuses are a rejection of Jesus Christ and the good news he offers.

The convenient time to turn from those sins and trust in Christ is today.  Right now!
