1 Chronicles

1 Chronicles 2

The Family of Israel
From Judah to David
The Family of Hezron
The Family of Jerahmeel
The Family of Caleb

1 Chronicles 2:1-17

The lineage returns to that of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; however the descendants that were not of the promise quickly drop off. The lineage begins with Judah and is particularly long and detailed because it is the line of David.

We see the rise of the younger son to prominence. This speaks to God's calling as a priority over the traditions and ways of man.

In verse 16 we see a brief lineage leading to three of David's mighty men and commanders of the army.

1 Chronicles 2:19-55

Hezron was the son of Perez; his name means 'enclosed or surrounded'. He had three sons; parts of this ancestry are important in establishing David's lineage. Jerahmeel means 'he will obtain mercy of God'. Caleb means 'bold, impetuous, a dog'. Ram means 'high and exalted'.
