1 Chronicles

1 Chronicles 12

The Growth of David's Army
David's Army at Hebron

This chapter shows additional proof of the broad support David had among the people. They came at different places and at different times; all to help him and establsh him as king of Israel. Saul was of the tribe of Benjamin, yet there were men of that tribe supporting David. These men came to David at Ziklag, near the southwestern border. This city was given to David by the Philistine king Achish while David was still in exile from Saul. He lived there for about a year until Saul's death.

It's as if these men were physically drawn to David. This great army came to him from everywhere and met him at Hebron. There seemed to be a sense of something great about to happen. There was geat joy as the people acknowledge what God has already declared; David was king of Israel. God even moved in others hear to bring food to this army; we can imagine the caravan it took to feed this great and mighty army.
