1 Chronicles 13

The Ark Brought From Kirjath Jearim

1 Chronicles 13:1-4

In David's consulting others we see he was a ruling servant, not a ruler to be served. However, he consulted men instead of God. Even if a thing seems like a good idea to all men, it may still be an offense to God. The counsel of godly men would always start with looking toward God. Did none of the counselors know this?

1 Chronicles 13:5-8

What a great assembly this must have been. They gathered to bring the ark to Jerusalem. It had been in Kirjath Jearim, which was about 14 miles west of Jerusalem, for 20 years. They planned this out; lots of people, a new cart, singing and dancing; this would be quite a production. No doubt many thought it would please the Lord to see this.

Ahio and Uzza were Levites and should have known better than this. Where were the other priest? Where were the keepers of the standards? The Lord had given very clearn instructions on how the Ark was to be moved.

1 Chronicles 13:9-12

What an ominous place for this event. The threshing is a picture of judgment; the separating of wheat and chaff. At the stumbling of the ox, Uzza put his hand on the Ark. The Lord ended his life in a lesson a holiness.

David's anger was frustration. He thought he was doing the right thing in bringing the ark; he thought this whole production was fore God. But was it? It wasn't done as prescribed. The Ark was placed in the house of Obed-Edom for 3 months. Obed-Edom was probably a Philistine from Gath or an Israelite from born in Gath, the Philistine city. The Ark remained in his house for 3 months.
