1 Chronicles

1 Chronicles 23

The Divisions of the Levites

At the end of his life, David essentially turned over the rule of the government to Solomon. Then he began to organize and prepare Israel for the future. All of Israel was united under his leadership to accomplish this. We can see the importance of this to the Chronicler, as well as David and all of Israel by the details of those who would serve.

There were specific minimal ages for the service in and around the temple. The Old Testament gives differing ages for service; 30 and under 50 (Num 4:3,23, 30); twenty years and above (Num 8:24). David not only organizes the building materials but sets the personnel in place to perform the functions associated with the temple. He assigned priests, muscians, gatekeepers, trueasuerers and other officials.
