The Musicians
David now sets up the musicians from the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun. There were no instructions in the law regarding musicians in the temple. These instructions came to David by the prophets Gad and Nathan. These men were set up in 24 divisions just as the priests were.
Asaph was lead musician in the prcession bringing the Ark to Jerusalem. See also Psal 73; a Psalm of Asaph. Heman was the grandson of the prophet Samuel (1 Chronicles 6:33). Jeduthun is associated with three Psalms; Psalm 33, 62 and 77.
We can see the importance of the role of music in the worship at the temple. There were two hundred eighty eight mucians; 24 teams of 12.
