2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles 3

Solomon Builds the Temple

Parallel with 1 Kings 6; The Chronicler gives us the location of the temple and the time the construction began. It was Solomon's fourth year as King when the temple began; around 967BC. First Kings tells us it had been four hundred and eighty years since the Israelites came out of Egypt. The temple was to be located on Mount Moriah; on the threshing floor of Ornan. This is the site that David chose, as seen in 1 Chronicles 21:26-22:1.

Then he moves into the physical descriptions of the temple. The footprint of the temple was about 90 ft x 30 ft. The temple pillars seem to be a focal point. It's the pillers one passes between to enter; they hold the entire works up. The first pillar is named Jachin, meaning; He will establish; founding; whom (God) strengthens; prepared.[1] The other pillar is named Boaz, meaning; In Him (the Lord) is strength. Come in strength; strength; fleetness.[2] Anyone entering the temple would be reminded it was established by God and strengthened by Him. As Christians, we are the teple of God; and we can be reminded that we are established by Him and our strength is found in Him.
