2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles 8

Solomon's Additional Achievements

Chapter 8 runs parallel with 1 Kings 9:10-28; we get an account of Solomon's acheivements after the building of the temple. It would seem that anything, and everything, would pale in comparison with the building and function of the temple. Yet, this established Solomon politically, forming trade relations, moving him to military events, taking on building projects across the land.

In verse 11 it seems Solomon understood that the Pharaoh's daughter was not consistent with what God called the Israelites to. He built her a separate house and kept her from the palace of David.

The Chronicler notes that Solomon's work was well ordered; the temple was built and functioning as it was supposed to be. The emphasis is on the proper worship of God.

Hiram began to build Solomon a fleet of ships; the servants of Hiram were Phoenicians who were known for their shipbuidling and seafaring. They went to Ophir, known for its gold, and picked up about 15 tons of gold to deliver to Solomon.
