2 Chronicles

2 Chronicles 35

Josiah Keeps the Passover
Josiah Dies in Battle

2 Chronicles 35:1-19

Josiah kept the Passover according to the law. This had to be a big event as it was with Hezekiah. After discovering the law and purging the land, this was a way to exercise their faith and give testimony to the change in the land. The instructions given to the priests and Levites by the king was to celebrate the Passover as laid down by the law according to the ways established by David and Solomon.

In this celebratio, they had recognized their sin and need for redemption. They celebrated the deliverance provided by the Lord established by the shed blood of the lamb. These folks were pointed to Jesus Christ and didn't know it. Their sin was great; the slaughter was great. There was nothing beautiful about this celebration except what it represented. Sin is ugly, the affects of sin is gruesome.

The chronicler held this Passover in higher regard than any Passover since the days of the judges.

2 Chronicles 35:20-27

Necho was joining forces with Assyria to stop the new superpower from Babylon. Necho ended up being defeated by Babylon but not before Josiah's death. All of Israel mourned the death of Josiah as well as Jeremiah.
