Isaiah study & commentary

Isaiah 4

By Doug Ford
The renewal of Zion

Isaiah 4:1

In that day seven women will take hold of one man and asked to be called by his name to take away their disgrace.  It would be unheard of that a husband wouldn't clothe and feed a wife.  In fact, it would be down right disrespectful not to allow the husband to do so.  They were desperate for association with a man to take away their reproach of being unmarried and childless.

Isaiah 4:2-6

The 'Branch of the Lord' is a messianic title; it literally means a 'shoot of Yahweh'.  The grace of Jesus would be beautiful and glorious to those 'in that day' of their suffering.  But, it would be all the more excellent and appealing to the remnant that escaped the judgment.  Their hope was to be in their coming messiah.

By the cleansing fires of judgment, a day would come when all who are left in Zion will be called holy.  All the filth will be washed away, the blood purged away.  A day is coming when the remnant will be washed and purged and called holy.  They will be in the presence of the Lord.  They would once again be His children, they would be His God and He would live among them.  It appears there will be a tabernacle to house the presence of the Lord.
