Isaiah study & commentary

Isaiah 12

By Doug Ford
A Hymn of Praise

Isaiah 12:1-3

The song of praise resembles Psalm 118.  This is a wrap up of chapters 6 through 12.  'In that day' is a link to chapter 11 but also speaks of the coming time when the Messiah reigns.  God had been angry but his anger was then turned away.

Jesus paid the price for sin and this allows God to turn away from His anger.  When the price is paid for sin God's anger relents and we come into relationship with Him.  Instead of a threat to us, He becomes a comfort and is our source of salvation.  He is the source of the living water.  See 1 Corinthians 10:4 and John 4 for more on living water.

Isaiah 12:4-6
On that day when we joyfully draw water from the well of salvation we will praise the Lord.  We call on His name and tell of all the awesome things He has done.  This is a Psalm to sing on that day.  Isaiah calls for them to cry out and shout because Yahweh is the Holy One of Israel in their midst.
