Isaiah study & commentary

Isaiah 35

By Doug Ford
The Future Glory of Zion

Isaiah 35:1-2

The millennial reign of Christ will be drastic change.  Even the desert, once the picture of forlornness, dry and barren will then bloom as a rose and become beautiful and abundant.  The new life and revitalization will be like it is rejoicing under the reign of King Jesus.  The glory of Lebanon, the excellence of Carmel and Sharon represent the undoing of what was done in judgment in verse 33:9.

When the His kingdom comes to earth, the excellency of God will be in full view.  It will no longer be spoiled by the fallen nature of man and the controlled by aging, disease and death.

Isaiah 35:3-4

It is in our nature to grow tired of waiting.  We begin to doubt if these times will ever come.  It seems as though sin continues to have its way with us and with the world.  We suffer through pain and sorrow in our lives.  We grow weary and weak in waiting.  Isaiah encouraged them to draw strength for you weakened hands.  The staggering and wobbly knees should stand firm.  They were to say, to the fearful at heart, 'heart be strong, do not fear'.  God will come; when He does, it will be with vengeance against his enemies, bringing recompense upon them.  God would come and save His people.  This is their hope.  This is what they might draw on to find courage and continue to trust in Him.

Isaiah 35:5-7

This passage is quoted in Mark 7:32.  Isaiah was talking first to the Jews of his time.  They were spiritually blinded and their ears were closed to the truth.  In this coming time, they will clearly see and hear the Lord and understand.  The lame that suffered through a life without the use of their legs will leap like deer.  Imagine seeing that, imagine the joy they will experience.  Those that never spoke will sing.  The dry places will become well watered and the dangerous, barren places of the jackal will become green meadows.  There will be sound where there once was none; a voice that was once kept quiet.  Dancing where there used to be just dreaming; life from death; the once barren full of life, the dry now watered.

Isaiah 35:8-10

There will be a Highway of Holiness in that day.  This is the road home.  This road was established by Jesus Christ.  All we have to do is take the road He prepared for us.  If you take this road, you won't go astray.  It is a narrow way.  Many will never find it.  When you are on the The Way, no ravenous beast will threaten you.  In that day, the ransomed of the Lord will return and come to Zion singing.  What a parade that will be.  What a time that will be.  Have you taken the high way?
